To provide four-year academic & boarding scholarships to highly motivated and academically promising, female, minority

students from inner city areas who desire better educational opportunities and broadening life experiences.

 

HISTORY

A BETTER CHANCE, Inc. is a national, nonprofit organization that fosters educational opportunities for talented minority students from around the country. A superior high school education is the key to providing college preparation for these qualified students.

 

Darien’s A Better Chance program was started in the fall of 1981. Six students along with resident directors live in town at 11 Brookside Road. The house is owned by the First Congregational Church and is leased to ABC for $1 a year. The students attend Darien High School.

Apply to A Better Chance

Students can apply to A Better Chance programs through the national organization. If they are interested in a specific program, or area, they can specify that in their application. For further questions or additional information the national office can be reached by telephone at 646 346-1310. Isabella Trauttmansdorff is the coordinator for A Better Chance programs in the northeast region. For an application click here.
